8 Ways to Personalise Your Wedding Day

Wedding trends are continually changing, and with social media giving us unlimited wedding inspiration and ideas it can be hard to get your head around what is right for you and your wedding. Your wedding day should reflect your relationship and your personalities and so here are some things to get you started. Personalise…..

  1. Your Ceremony – hire a celebrant that is willing to get to know you and tell your story! Ask if you can add your own stories, readings, poems, music, rituals… your ceremony is the official start of your wedding and sets the tone for the day. A unique, personalised ceremony is much more enjoyable and memorable for you and your guests!
  2. Your Vows – have a go at writing your own vows. The vows are the part of the ceremony that you speak and where you make your promises to each other for your future, and this is where your personality can really show. Express your feelings, express your love, and remember that it is you talking to the person you love most in the world. Your vows don’t have to be Shakespeare or poetry, they should just be YOU. Speak to your celebrant and ask for some tips and assistance to write your own vows.
  3. The Decorations – don’t be afraid to decorate the way you want to. There are no rules, and you don’t have to follow the trends if they don’t speak to you and what you want for your wedding. Speak to your stylist or venue coordinator and express what you want. Collect your ideas and inspiration, create mood boards, draw, pin, clip, screenshot… do what you need to do to make it your own!!
  4. The Music – choose songs and genres that you love for throughout your wedding. Set the tone with some pre-ceremony music, walk down the aisle to one of your absolute favourite songs, and celebrate with your friends and family with a play list that is all you.The Nutbush and Macarena isn’t for everyone so be sure to chat with your DJ and create the atmosphere that works for you.
  5. The Food – serve your favourites! If you would both always choose burger and chips over an elegant meal at a fancy restaurant, or shared a first date eating fish and chips out of paper, bring that feel to the food at your wedding! Your guests will love to share sliders (tiny, fancy hamburgers) and pommes frites (the fanciest way to say ‘French Fries’).
  6. The Drinks – serve the drinks you love, whether it be beer, wine, cocktails or your favourite non-alcoholic beverages! Also consider making and serving your own signature cocktail. Create something that is very ‘you’ and come up with a quirky name. It won’t just be great for the wedding, but something you can make it the future that will always remind you of our big day!
  7. Your speech – take the time to consider your speech! Don’t just Google and change the names, it should be special, and a genuine thank you to everyone who has contributed to your day. Don’t be afraid to have a laugh, share your favourite stories, and express how grateful and happy you are to be sharing the moment with your friends and family.
  8. The Hashtag – create your own personalised hashtag to help you collect photos and videos from your friends, family and vendors on social media from your big day.

And remember:

  • TALK to your suppliers – they are there to make your day special and unique! Be sure to communicate with them, and tap into their knowledge and experience!
  • Do it your own way – Yes, I keep saying it over and over again, but do it your own way, bring out your personality, and don’t feel like you have to follow any rules!

It is YOUR wedding – your wedding should be different to any other wedding because it is about you. Everyone will have an opinion, everyone will have ideas, but keep in mind that you can’t please everyone. Your wedding, your day, your way.
